5 out of 5 stars Great value

I did a side by side comparison at B&H with comparable Mefoto, Gitzo, Oben, Induro and Manfrotto travel pods. Workmanship, design, apparent stability and feel were on par or better than the higher priced kits. I chose the Benro due to its tool-free conversion to monopod or walking stick configurations. Initially I chose the lighter 1682TV1 model but decided to go with thicker diameter legs; 15mm vs. 12mm small tubes. I ordered the 2682TV2 from Amazon to compare it with and decided to return the lighter model. Though the TV2 is a bit longer, it still fits easily in either of my 20-22" carry on suitcases. The size and extra stability paid off when shooting video off a lawn next to a Manfrotto 190X equipped with a similar camera rig; Canon 7d/70-200mm combo. Neither tripod was weighted in addition to their camera mounts and the 190X shook noticeably in the occasional 10-25mph gusts and was very slow to dampen. The carbon Benro moved with the peak gusts but dampened immediately. There's a hook on the post that can be used for additional weight for better stability. The new V2 head's feel, movement and adjustment knobs were smooth and solidly locked down when tightened. The 5d3 gripped with 70-200/f2.8 (my heaviest configuration) is rock steady in portrait mode.I am completely satisfied with the value, quality, workmanship and performance of this Benro carbon tripod.

The tripod is light and sturdy. I like the flexibility of the detachable leg and have used it as a hiking pole. The travel size is perfect for packing in my carry-on luggage along with my camera bag. The overall weight with the ball head is a little more than I would like, but the head is high quality, strong, and stable.

It is half the weight of my Manfrotto, the head is solid---once you tie it, it stays firm. It is easy to set up. I have a D600 with the Nikkor 24-85mm on; this is not a super heavy team but it is far from light. I set my camera on the tripod and was moving it around trying to capture my cat that was under the table. The camera's nose ended up pointing down and we were amazed to see how firm the tripod stood with all the weight pointing down. For me, the light weight and how solid it holds does it. It is nice looking too :) Worth every penny I paid for it!

4 out of 5 stars QC of head needs to be improved

My wife and I needed smaller tripods to use when traveling by air and yet they needed to be sturdy because of the long lenses we use for wildlife. Consequently we went to a NYC retail store so we could examine tripods and we purchased two of this model. The good points:-- For a light tripod that will fit in luggage, this is surprisingly sturdy -- probably sturdy enough for most photographers to use as their sole tripod if they suspend a backpack or bag from the hook on the center column.-- My wife considers the ability to convert it to a monopod as a significant feature. The only disadvantage is that you have more degrees of freedom in the head than you need on a monopod.-- The short column that comes with this kit and the ability to support a camera close to the ground is a marked advantage for our macro work. The QC issue with the heads:The V2 head that comes in this kit is a compromise design in order to be small and light. The one in the store worked quite well. One of the ones we purchased was tighter than the display unit but worked well enough. The second unit did not work at all. I simply could not release the head enough to compose the image. Benro technical support said the head was defective and to return it. The replacement head is satisfactory but none of the three heads which we received had the same tension setting as each other or the same as the display unit. There is simply too much variability in their manufacturing process. In sum, I am satisfied with the product and it will probably serve us well for years. I combine it with the Really Right Stuff camera plates which are much superior to the plate that comes with this tripod.
