HDMI also provides the benefits of Deep Color, x.v.Color and Auto Lip-Sync. High Sound Quality Design Three 1-1/2" x 3-3/4" (4x10cm) acoustic suspension front speakers ensure wide, high clarity treble response. The built-in bass reflex 5" (13cm) subwoofer delivers powerful and extended bass response with no muddiness. The design of the front cabinet also contributes to sound quality by improving midrange response. AIR SURROUND XTREME Yamaha's exclusive AIR SURROUND XTREME achieves incredibly realistic 7.1-channel surround sound from a single location. You hear clear dialogue from the front, with distinctly separate surround sounds and smooth sound movement around the sound field. This highly effective system delivers true 7.1-channel surround sound from front speaker system and subwoofer. It allows you to hear clear dialogue and other sounds from the front, specific sounds from the other channels to the sides and rear, and continuous sound movement around you. The subwoofer delivers all the powerful bass you expect from multi-channel music and movie sources. Headphone Surround Technology Yamaha has succeeded in providing a 7.1-channel surround sound experience through headphones, while maintaining excellent audio quality. Using highly sophisticated HRTF (Head-Related Transfer Function) technology and FIR (Finite Impulse Response) filter processing, the headphone output of the YRS-700 offers accurately localized front and rear sound orientation for private enjoyment of movies, music. There are also specialized modes for TV programs and games. Music Enhancer and Surround Mode When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. Yamaha's Music Enhancer function restores what was lost, so your music always sounds the way it should. Four surround modes create realistic soundscapes for Movies, Music, Sports and Games. Enjoy wireless music from your iPod/iPhone with Yamaha yAired technology CEC Compatibility When the YRS-700 can be connected to a CEC-compatible TV, such as a Panasonic VIERA Link compatible television, it will turn on and off simultaneously with the TV. UniVolume and Preset Volume UniVolume maintains a consistent volume level between different channels, programs, commercials and input sources. It can be switched on and off. Preset Volume allows you to set a preferred volume level which will come on each time the unit is turned on, regardless of what the level was when it was turned off. yAired Technology for Wireless Connections The YRS-700 makes it easy to enjoy music from your iPod/iPhone via a wireless link using compatible Yamaha yAired docks (sold separately). You get outstanding sound quality, because yAired technology transmits uncompressed data so there is no loss of signal data, unlike systems that use Bluetooth technology to send compressed data. In addition, there is no delay time, ensuring that sound and video are always in sync. Optional Accessories (Sold Separately) The optional YDS-12 Universal Dock lets you connect your iPod or iPhone to the receiver. The optional YID-W10 ensures that you enjoy maximum sound quality and no lip sync (AV matching) problems. I waited a week before writing this review. I wanted to watch several movies. First was "Top Gun", which I think has the best audio opening of any movie and is in 6.1. Then "Avatar" Blu-ray 3D on a Panasonic 3D TV, even though it is only 5.1. The last was the Blu-ray "The Final Countdown", which, believe it or not, is 7.1.All I can say is WOW!. Although I have a fairly small apartment, this was the BEST theater quality surround sound I have ever heard, and that goes for all the demos at the audio stores. As far as setup, it was really quite simple. From opening the box to programming and watching my 1st movie, it was less than 2 hours.Find a way to check this system out. Big room or small, I think you will be amazed as I am and really glad you looked into it.

Construction of the unit is solid. Design is attractive and cable management is simple but well thought out.You will have to assemble the various components and the instructions are not very helpful. I assembled it, on my own, in 30 minutes. Instructions recommend 2 people for some stages. Here is the important part...how does it perform!I bought this unit to replace a Sony 5.1 Bluray/Surround System because I have a relatively small living room and the 5 speakers & subwoofer were dominating the room. Also because of hardwood floors the subwoofer was overpowering and had no individual volume control. The sound quality with satellite TV is very is crisp & clear. Netflix streaming video is actually a lot better than it was, and normal DVD's sound no different. However Bluray material sounds a lot cleaner. Overall I am very impressed with the system, especially with the degree of control you have over the audio output, including subwoofer. Is it a true surround system...no, but it really is very good for a system that is totally incorporated into the Media Stand. That's why it gets a fully deserved 5 stars. If you want true 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound then don't buy this.If you are restricted for space this unit is for you, especially as the subwoofer is also contained within the stand.

The fact that there are no wires and speakers hanging all over the room is exactly how I sold this thing to my wife. Sounds great, looks so clean and simple!

I am a 69 yr old vietnam vet with significant hearing liabilities. I purchased this product from Amazonand received and assembled it on 10-1-12. The assembly is straight forward and does require twopeople. I have a Panasonic VT50 55" plasma TV that fits on top of the Yamaha YRS TV Stand/SpeakerBar. The Yamaha YRS 700 is a beautiful piece of furniture that blends well with the Panasonic TV.To me the sound system is magnificent. At low volume voices are clear and the 100 watt sub wooferhas a 3D audio presence that is 'felt' from 10' away. The three 50 watt forward firing speakers andthe 100 watt downward firing sub woofer fill the 600 sq ft room I have the in system with sound, although I wouldn't call it 'surround sound'. I have the YRS 700 connected to the TV via HDMI ARC.My TIVO Premiere Elite DVR and my Panasonic DBP-BDT220 Blue Ray Player are connected to thevia HDMI. Although the manual set up and remote are not intuitive, any problems can be overcome inprogramming the system by calling yamaha customer service, that is available 24/7. The YamahaYRS 700 is a excellent audio system.

I hate to rain on anybody's parade but I am not that impressed with this system considering it cost $1000!. It easy to set up and the remote is very easy to use but I have watched many movies that I have watched in surround sound before and I have to say I am dissapointed in the lack of clear surround sound. I have sat in every location in my living room and even though the unit says it is broadcasting in surround sound, all of the sound sounds like it is coming from the front of the room like regular tv speakers. Before I spent $1000 on this unit I would definitely go and listen to one in person if possible because my Yamaha surround system that this replaced was far superior.
