The sound quality of the ZVOX 580 is comparable to that of much more expensive multi-speaker systems. 4-digit display for settings and features is located behind the grille--and disappears when not in use Great Sound The most important feature for any home theater system is high quality sound. The 580 uses a new amplifier design with extremely accurate frequency response and a warm, natural sound with surprisingly powerful bass. It features dual 6.5" powered subwoofers in a spacious cabinet (equal in interior volume to a 14" x 14" x 14" subwoofer box). The result is accurate, window-rattling bass down to 34Hz. No other all-in-one home theater system even comes close. PhaseCue Virtual Surround Sound The 580 uses ZVOX's proprietary PhaseCue virtual surround system to give you rich, three-dimensional sound with movies or music. With music, PhaseCue creates a very wide soundstage--it literally sounds like you are listening to speakers eight feet apart from each other. When listening to a good movie, the soundtrack will envelop you, putting you in the middle of the action. PhaseCue uses exclusive technology "fools the ear" into believing that sound is coming from a variety of sources throughout the room. The benefits of PhaseCue vary greatly based on program material. Live music and well-recorded modern movie soundtracks will deliver rich, three-dimensional sound, pulling the sound out from the speakers and into the room to literally surround the listener. While no virtual surround system will give you the exact surround effects of a good 5.1 system, the ZVOX 580 does a remarkable job. PhaseCue virtual surround system gives you rich, three-dimensional sound with movies or music. View larger

Even playing at quite loud volumes, it usually uses less than 10 watts of total power. And standby power usage tends to hover around 0.1 watts, making it one of the "greenest" audio systems ever made. The 580 is Energy Star qualified. Setting A New Standard For Vocal Clarity ZVOX systems are known for their remarkable vocal clarity--even during sports broadcasts where crowd noise drowns out the announcers, or movies where surround sound effect make voices hard to hear. the Dialog Emphasis (DE) feature mimics the functions of a hearing aid for incredibly clarity. No other speaker system provides such an easy-to-use and effective method for improving the intelligibility of television dialog. Uses Your Remote Control Our SoundBase systems can be programmed to respond to your remote control. The illuminated display walks you through a less-than-a-minute programming cycle. Then your TV remote...or cable box remote...or satellite receiver remote...or ANY remote...can control volume, mute, power and input functions of the ZVOX system. Taming Loud Commercials If you've ever been blasted out of your chair by a too-loud commercial, or by a cable channel that's twice as loud as another channel, you'll love the new Output Leveling (OL) feature on the ZVOX 580. Just push the "OL" button and a sophisticated compression system takes over, making soft sounds louder and loud sounds softer, so there are fewer jarring moments when switching channels or when commercials come on. Disappearing Display The 580 features a four-digit display located behind the speaker grille that shows the current setting for volume, bass, treble and PhaseCue (virtual surround)--and also shows when you have engaged the Mute, Output Leveling (OL) or Dialog Emphasis (DE) features. A few seconds after you stop using your remote (or front panel) controls, the display disappears completely. Connect Your iPod and Other Devices The 580 has two analog audio inputs, one optical digital input, and one coaxial digital input, plus a front-panel 3.5mm analog stereo input for convenient connection of your iPod or other portable audio device. Any specific input can be selected using either the remote control or the slim-line module below the speaker grille. Wood (MDF) Cabinet With Hand-Lacquered Side Panels The 580 features a hand-built cabinet of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) with beautiful hand-lacquered high-gloss end panels. Its low-profile design blends perfectly with flat-panel TVs. Most people don't even notice the ZVOX 580 until they hear it. What's in the Box? I am an audiophile. Prove it you say? I think records sound better than CDs. I pay extra for hi resolution downloads of music I really like. my turntable costs more than my car. I have tubes in my preamp. ALL of the components in my stereo were made in the US. So when somebody says that a consumer product is "audiophile" quality, I usually feel they are engaged in hyperbole. That is the case here, but it does not mean the ZVOZ 580 is not worth the money. IT IS!The sound from the TV in my bedroom was so bad to my ears, I could not even watch the news in bed. Wide screen TVs are getting smaller and less expensive, so something has to give. THE SOUND. I needed an answer and quick. I first started looking for a pair of powered speakers, but could not find something that sounded good and would turn on automatically when the TV was powered up and would shut down when it was off. Sure there were some solutions like the Tannoy powered speakers, but the cost was very high. I could also get an receiver and some traditional speakers and have good sound that way. But that was complex and took up to much room. I started to feel the sound I wanted was still far off and I was starting to blow the budget. Then I saw this ad in Stereophile Magazine and there was hope! Here was my criteria:- Less than $500- Easy enough for my wife to use- Low profile- REALLY GOOD SOUND - remember the audiophile part?- Did not stay powered up all the timeThe ZVOX 580 seemed to fit the criteria so I ordered one from Amazon to try it out. It came in two days in a large banged up box, but the ZBOX was in perfect shape. It took about 10 minutes for me to place it under the Panasonic HDTV, although the unit did not include the SPDIF fiber cable.Read more ›

I just received the New 580 Zvox Sound System and was easy to set up in less than 5 minutes. The quality of this product is truly outstanding. Rich in depth of tone and voice quality is very clear and fresh. We tried it out on the dialog of different cable channels/movies/and Streaming movies. It feels like you are the only one in a fine Surround Sound Theater. This is an incredible value. I highly recommend the ZVOX 580. Now my HDTV 60" has sound to match the picture quality.

Pros: . Crystal clear dialogs . Clean and surprisingly powerful bass . Simple to setup: plug power, plug optical cable (from LCD TV in my case) and ENJOY . Connections options . Can use your TV remote for volume / mute and extremely low power consumption in standby makes that you don't think about it i.e. you don't have to switch it on/off and use a separate remote.Cons: . Surround sound field is limited especially when moving away from center axis. But I still give the box 5-star as it stands alone in its class and price point, the only remotely convincing surround I heard from such a system is from the B&W Panorama at x4.5 price... And its bass were not as good.Overall, this the best money can buy at the moment when you don't want to fiddle with cables, don't want extra pieces of 'furniture' in the room/on the walls and want something you can hide under the TV.Music - Listening to a Mumford&Sons song, the vocals are very clear, the instruments are well detached and the bass is warm and never muddy. Spin a Pop song like Kelly Rowland/David Guetta's "Commander" and the ZVox 580 handles it without skipping a beat.(Surround mode 2 is my preferred mode there)Sports - While it does not equal a true 5.1 setup, you still feel in the middle of the action and the subwoofer helps conveying the crowds and hits during a football game.(Surround mode 3 is my preferred mode there)Movie - This is where some trading off is needed. You can have pretty good presence (still no magic, the sound does not come bouncing off the wall in the famed House of the Flying Daggers scene) but dialog lose some clarity in Surround mode 3. You can keep very clean dialogs in Surround mode 2 but you lose some presence.Read more ›

I liked the sound quality of this product. It is definitely not a surround sound system but produces a good quality of sound output. Very good baas and treble. This is placed under my TV and some of the other reviews of ZVOX mentioned it magically disappears on the table.I would recommend this to folks who want to enhance TV speakers and not really looking for surround sound. I also liked the feature to connect my iPhone to the speaker without turning the TV ON. Sound is amazing. My Samsung TV remote got tuned to the speakers with no issue so as soon as i turn the TV ON the speakers turns ON and goes OFF with TV.===Update After 2 months====I still love it and it surprises me with the sound quality every time I hear music on this. To test the quality and feel the difference between this speaker system and TV speakers I turned ON TV speakers and turned off the ZVOX... I had to reverse my settings back to ZVOX to enjoy my TV. It is an amazing system. After I bought this my iPhone is heavily used to play songs which I hear by connecting it to the 3.5mm input in the front.
